Irish PropTech platform RentDodo launches new feature to help renters better identify landlords and boost supply

Leading Irish platform for renters, landlords and estate agents, RentDodo, has announced the launch of its new ‘Rooms’ feature, which aims to help tenants verify landlords’ identities and boost the supply of living spaces for rent across Ireland. It’s hoped this latest addition will not only eliminate growing levels of rental fraud and provide protection to vulnerable renters, but encourage more people to open up their homes to tenants. RentDodo aims to provide users with an easier, more secure rental experience through its unique technology and features including ‘TenantCert’ which verifies all parties involved in the process.

With no single verification-led marketplace for long term renters currently available in Ireland, people are seeking to rent living spaces in properties, apartments to rent and houses through social media sites and word of mouth. Through RentDodo’s new ‘Rooms’ feature, homeowners can advertise living spaces available for rent, whilst at the same time confirming the identity and income of potential tenants. It is unique in that landlords need to provide verification before advertising any rooms on the site.

Rooms will provide that extra peace of mind to all involved and will enable landlords to submit their preferences on who they wish to share their homes with. With a significant shortage of rooms for rent across Ireland and a sharp increase in property fraudsters and ‘ghost properties’, RentDodo are hopeful that the new feature will set a revised industry standard and offer that added element of security in the year ahead. By providing added security, the platform also aims to encourage people to offer their unused spaces to people actively seeking somewhere to live.

Rooms operates in conjunction with TenantCert, which launched last year. It’s technology means users simply need to upload personal documentation and share profiles which will confirm both identity and income verification. This eliminates the need to share multiple copies of payslips and bank statements repeatedly over the internet.

According to the CSO, at least 1.2m bedrooms were unoccupied across Ireland in 2022. In addition to this, recent figures from show around €2 million has been stolen in accommodation and rental scams in the last five years.

Speaking about the launch of Rooms and how it hopes to help curb ghost properties and provide added security to tenants, RentDodo Co-Founder Conor McGarry said:
